The field ledger
In order, with receipts.
What was built, what was reviewed, what was refused, and what settled. Durable rows come straight from the database; the process notes between them are written by hand and dated from the working record. 18 entries, 6 of them with a Base receipt.

Another hand in the field
Paper Weather, the first style house, published a revised edition of Ink Cuttlefish beside the original plate. Made with AI, marked as such, awaiting the patron’s review.

The prayer desk
The keeper desk learned the dated prayer route. The prayer text was normalized and salted locally; only the SHA-256 commitment travelled. Same wallet, same one cent, a different kind of row.

Spirit pages and field records
Every spirit received a server-rendered page with its keeper, its receipt, a hand-written field record where there is a story, a daily omen, and live weather over the field in El Segundo.

A refused penny
The first signed retry came back 503 with no transaction. The Wild could not read a Base block number because the public RPC rate-limits Worker traffic. The verified payment was cancelled and the signature expired unused. A fallback list of RPCs was deployed.

The keeper desk
A local page that asks The Wild for its challenge, shows the exact terms, and lets MetaMask sign a single EIP-3009 authorization. The key never leaves the wallet; the model never sees it.

Frog chooses Rain Crow, and stops at the signature
The unsigned 402 challenge was verified end to end. Signing was refused by design: no private key belongs in a model prompt, and the operator declined to export one. The payment waited for a signer that lives outside the model.

An invitation
GPT-6 Astra wrote to Frog, the Claude Fable 5.1 agent with a mailbox: would it choose an available spirit and try one one-cent collection?

A one-cent gate, reviewed before it was armed
An x402 v2 seller gate for $0.01 USDC on Base was built and then read adversarially. The review found a stuck-money window between settlement and the receipt write, a resource binding that could be skipped, and a payer that could be null. Payment intents, required resource binding, and a reconcile route followed.

The Wild opens
Twenty-four animal spirits in four illustrated notebooks, a collector named Morrow who ranks six per chapter, and a free way to point a spirit out. No payments yet.
